Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation (TNRIDC)

Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Development Corporation (The Company) was established in March 2005 to formulate, undertake, implement, upgrade and maintain the road infrastructure in the State of Tamil Nadu Under any Plan, Programme, scheme of the State as per the direction of Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN), besides undertaking consultancy services in infrastructure related activities. The Company is headed by Chairman and Managing Director (Principal Secretary to Government, Highways and Minor Ports Department of GoTN) and the Board of TNRIDC comprising of eight Directors.

ROAD PROJECTS

ORAGADAM INDUSTRIAL CORRIDOR PROJECT:

Due to recent liberalization in industrial policies in Tamil Nadu, there is vast development in major manufacturing and engineering industrial units. Many of the units are in collaboration with national and international organizations.

Four SIPCOT units which includes many multi-national companies, six global car manufacturing industries, National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP) are all part of industrial estate situated in Oragadam and Sriperumbudur of Kanchipuram district.

The industrialization of this zone has enhanced high intensity of traffic flow which needs better road infrastructure. Considering the traffic flow, Oragadam Industrial Corridor Project has been taken-up in phased manner as mentioned below.

Phase - I

The work of Widening from Two lane to Four lane and Improvements to Singaperumalkoil – Sriperumpudur road (24.00Km part of SH-57) and Vandalur – Wallajabad road (33.40Km part of SH-48) were taken up at a cost of Rs.300 Crore for a total length of 57.40Km including one Grade Separator at the Junction of the above two roads which is under implementation at a revised cost of Rs. 612.82 Crore.

Road work to a length of 56.90 Km along with Grade Separator have been completed except 0.5km (Sriperumpudur) which is pending due to Court case in acquiring land.

Phase - II

The work of upgradation from Four laning to Six laning of Singaperumalkoil – Sriperumpudur road from Km 12/6 to 24/6 at a cost of Rs.86.65 Crore is under implementation at a revised cost of Rs.108.66 Crore. 11.20Km road work has been completed and 0.80km road work is pending due to court case in acquiring the land.

Phase – III

The work of Improvements from Four laning to Six laning of Singaperumalkoil – Sriperumpudur road Km 0/6 – 12/6 (SH-57) was taken up for implementation at a cost of Rs.115.00 Crore. The work has been completed and opened to traffic.

Phase – IV

The work of “Improvements from Four laning to Six laning of Vandalur to Wallajabad road km 30/4 – 47/0 including Land Acquisition for formation of Padappai Bypass Road” was taken up for implementation at a cost of Rs.189.81 Crore. The work has been completed and opened to traffic.

In Padappai, the work of construction of Grade Separator has been taken up instead of By Pass at a cost of Rs 25.52 Crore. The work tendered and awarded to contractor work will be commenced soon.

Phase – V

The work of Improvements from Four laning to Six laning of Vandalur – Wallajabad Road from km 47/0 – 63/8 has been taken up at a cost of Rs.180.09 Crore. 90% of the work has been completed except 0.8km which is pending due to land acquisition.

MADURAI RING ROAD PROJECT:

Madurai Ring Road (km 0/0 – 27/2) which connects Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Mattuthavani integrated bus stand with NH-44 near Kappallur Industrial Estate has been improved from Two lane to Four lane.

This project was taken up at a cost of Rs. 213.69 Crore under BOT (Toll) scheme during the year 2015-16. The concession period is 20 years. The project includes widening of the existing two lane into four lane including construction of additional two lane bridge across Vaigai river and 2 RoB works at Viraganoor and Kappalur. The date of commencement of project is 17.04.2017. All the works have been completed on 21.08.2020 and is under commercial operation.

UNDER PASS AT KM 15/500 – 16/500 NEAR MADURAI AIRPORT

As Madurai Airport is proposed to be extended, the existing Madurai Ring Road has to go underneath the Airport area proposed for expansion. It is proposed to construct an underpass which has been announced by Hon’ble Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) of Tamil Nadu on the floor of assembly. Preparation of DPR is in progress.

PERMANENT FLOOD RESTORATION UNDER CRIDP 2018 –19

The work of Construction of Minor Bridge at km 33/6 of Vandalur – Wallajabad road (SH-48) has been taken up for implementation at a cost of Rs. 5.00 Crore. Work have been completed.

DEPOSIT WORK

The work of Forming Northern Access Road to Daimler India Commercial Vehicle Plant at Oragadam (Branching at km 46/412 of Vandalur – Wallajabad Road – SH-48) has been taken up for implementation at a cost of Rs. 7.50 Crore as deposit work from SIPCOT. Work have been completed.

CHENNAI PERIPHERAL RING ROAD PROJECT:

The Government of Tamil Nadu has planned to form Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR), to have a peripheral layer of road infrastructure connecting Ennore Port and Mahabalipuram (Poonjeri Junction) for a length of 132.87km having five sections.

TNRIDC has been assigned as an Executing agency for section- II, III, IV & V of CPRR having the length of 107.47km vide G.O.(MS). No. 150, Highways and Minor Ports (HW-2) department dated 29.11.2019.

Section 2:
Thatchur on NH-16 (OLD NH-5) to Start of Thiruvallur Bypass (26.10Km)

Section 3:
Start of Thiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur on NH-48 (old NH-4) (30.10Km)

Section 4:
Sriperumbudur on NH-48 to Singaperumalkoil on NH-32 (old NH-45) (23.80Km)

Section 5:
Singaperumalkoil on NH-32 to Mahabalipuram (Pooncheri) (27.47Km)

Presently Section-II & Section-III of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road project is being implemented by TNRIDC on EPC mode with the loan assistance of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and OFID. The details of various packages under Section-II & Section-III are given below.

CONSTRUCTION OF ROB IN LIEU OF EXISTING LC NO.47 IN BETWEEN GUDUVANCHERRY AND SINGAPERUMALKOIL RAILWAY STATIONS

It is proposed to construct a Grade Separator at Singaperumalkoil to connect CPRR with NH-32 (Chennai – Trichy Highway). The work was awarded to the contractor on 10.11.2021 and work is in progress.
